OUR STORY

We are the Southeast Asian Movement.

One evening...

A bunch of college kids sat down and talked about the future. Our home countries face all kinds of challenges, from political instability to rapid urbanization. We realized that we were lucky: as college students, we have all kinds of resources and contacts to navigate these stormy waters. But many of our fellow youths in Southeast Asia don't have these resources.

We decided to do something about it.

Southeast Asian youth are increasingly engaged and driven, but often lack the information to transform their dreams into action. They may have the intention to improve their communities, but don't know how to make that happen. We fill this gap.

Our vision is to connect youths to powerful ideas about Southeast Asia by leading thinkers and practitioners in order to inspire progress in the region.

Online, SEAMseries creates high-quality and accessible 3-5-minute videos to communicate important concepts by experts on issues in Southeast Asia. Speakers can be anyone from a politician to an academic, so long as they communicate ideas relevant to Southeast Asia. Anyone can submit questions to be answered by an interviewee.

Offline, SEAMconference brings together a community of youths, thinkers and leaders in an annual conference in Southeast Asia. Speakers and participants share information, discuss ideas, and test plans to improve their communities

Our plans caught the eye of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders' Initiative, a program launched by U.S. President Barack Obama under the U.S. Department of State. We are one of the 18 winners (out of 850+ applicants) in the 2015 Seeds for Future Grant competition under our earlier name, SEARCH. With this support, we are ready to bring SEAM to the world.
